Facility Clearance

When an individual working for an agency or department needs facility clearance, an application for security clearance must be submitted to the Department of Defense (DoD) for approval. An individual must be authorized for their agency to submit this application to the DoD. The DoD will review the application and make a determination regarding the applicants request for facility clearance. Based on the information provided in the application, the DoD will either approve or reject the applicant's request for facility clearance.

If an individual's request for security clearance is denied, the DoD will send the applicant a Statement of Reasons (SOR). The SOR lists allegations against the individual regarding the denial for facility clearance. The applicant will have the opportunity to review the allegations against them and can appeal the DoD's facility clearance denial. During this appeals process, the individual will provide the DoD with answers and rebuttals pertaining to the allegations outlined in the SOR.

Individual's that have been denied facility clearance and need to appeal an SOR should contact an attorney for expert legal counsel. The DoD approves or denies facility clearance requests based on established security guidelines and the information submitted on the application. An experienced attorney will have thorough understanding of the facility clearance process and can assist an individual in truthfully and fully responding to the allegations listed in the SOR to achieve a satisfactory outcome.
