Get a Security Clearance
When an employee needs to get a security clearance to access sensitive information, they must submit an application with the Department of Defense (DoD). The DoD will review the information submitted on the application to determine if the individual is an acceptable security risk. The DoD will make this determination based on information submitted on the individuals application in regard to the individuals credentials and personal history. The DoD can choose to either deny or approve the request for a security clearance.
When an individual is unable to get a security clearance, the DoD will send the individual a Statement of Reasons (SOR). The SOR will outline the information submitted in the application that does not meet DoD security guidelines. The information in the SOR is sent in the form of allegations. The individual denied security clearance will have the opportunity to address these allegations in an effort to get a security clearance. The individual will have to address each issue or allegation stated in the SOR.
If an individual is denied security clearance, contacting a lawyer is recommended. A lawyer with experience in security clearance can assist individuals in getting a security clearance if they have been denied. A skilled attorney will have a comprehensive understanding of the DoD security clearance guidelines and can help individuals formulate answers to the allegations in the SOR that will conform to DoD guidelines. When an individual needs to get a security clearance, having the expert guidance of a qualified attorney is invaluable.
