SCI Clearance

SCI Clearance is a type of security clearance within the Department of Defense (DoD). There are three types of security clearance based on the sensitivity and secrecy of the information to which an individual will have access. The three classifications are classified, secret, and top-secret. SCI is an acronym for Sensitive Compartmented Information, and an individual with SCI clearance will have access to secret or top-secret information relevant to a specific topic or program.

The organization or agency for which the individual works is responsible for requesting SCI clearance for the individual through the DoD. The individual will submit an application for SCI clearance, which will be reviewed by the DoD. After the application is reviewed, the DoD will determine whether the applicants request for SCI clearance will be approved or denied. If the application is denied, the DoD will supply the applicant with a Statement of Reasons (SOR) detailing a list of allegations in regard to the SCI clearance denial.

Individuals denied SCI clearance will have the opportunity to address the allegations in the SOR in an attempt to gain SCI clearance. Before formulating answers to these allegations, contacting an attorney for legal guidance is recommended. An attorney will have an understanding of the security guidelines by which the DoD determines security clearance and can help the applicant address the SOR allegations in a proper manner. The goal is to obtain SCI clearance, and an attorney can provide expert legal representation in these matters to obtain a satisfactory outcome.
