Security Clearance Lawyer
A security clearance lawyer has the expertise and skills needed to help those individuals that have been denied security clearance to appeal the denial made by the Department of Defense (DoD). When an individual needs to obtain security clearance during the course of their work, they must submit an application to the DoD for review and consideration. The application for security clearance becomes necessary when the individual needs to access confidential, secret, or top secret information. Security clearance is required in order to protect the national security of the US.
The DoD follows established security guidelines when making determinations as to whether or not to grant an individual security clearance. If unfavorable information is contained in the application for security clearance or discovered during the course of interviews and investigations, the individual will risk having his or her request for security clearance denied. A security clearance lawyer will be well-versed in and knowledgeable of the DoD's security guidelines.
When an individual is denied security clearance, they will receive a Statement of Reasons (SOR) from the DoD. The SOR will list the reasons or allegations against the individual for which the security clearance request was denied. The individual will be given the opportunity to address the allegations and appeal the DoD's decision. A security clearance lawyer can help the individual prepare his or her answers to the allegations in the SOR in an attempt to obtain the required security clearance.
