Top Secret Clearance
Top secret clearance is required for employment in certain positions within companies and agencies, and this clearance is granted or denied based on a security check. In order to receive top secret clearance through a security check, an application must be submitted to the Department of Defense (DoD) for review and consideration. The application will take into account the applicant's background and history, and the security check will determine whether or not the individual is an acceptable security risk.
The DoD reviews the information submitted on the application based on several security guidelines. Top secret clearance will be granted to those individuals that successfully pass DoD security clearance. If the individual is denied top secret clearance, a Statement of Reasons (SOR) will be made available to the individual. The SOR will contain allegations regarding the individual's security clearance denial. The individual will have the opportunity to respond to those allegations in an effort to obtain top secret clearance.
Individuals that are denied top secret clearance are advised to contact an attorney before submitting answers to the SOR allegations. A practiced and knowledgeable attorney can help the individual prepare answers to the allegations that will be both comprehensive and truthful in nature. When an individual has been denied top secret clearance, retaining the services of an experienced attorney can be a key to obtaining the necessary security clearance.
